The winner of the 2018 Chief Thomas Engells Memorial Scholarship is Anthony J. Curry.  Anthony worked with Thomas E. Engells for nearly 8 years at the University of Texas Medical Branch Police as Assistant Police Chief.  He is a retired Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and a 15-year veteran of law enforcement, with experience gained at the Galveston National Laboratory.  He has a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and said of the scholarship “As I continue my career in law enforcement management, it is evident that all chief law enforcement administrators must have a high level of understanding regarding bioterrorism to properly understand the devastating impact of a bioterrorism attack.  I will use this course to further my knowledge and allow me to share my knowledge with others.” There were many excellent applicants for the scholarship and a very competitive field. The award was presented at the Bioterrorism and Health Intelligence Course by Mrs Peggy Engells, who travelled to Australia from Texas to present the award in honour of the memory of her husband Chief Engells. We congratulate Mr Curry on being the winner and wish him all the best in his career.
